Welcome to the Alabama District Pilot International Website! The Alabama District consists of 31 clubs and approximately 890 members. Pilot International was chartered on October 18, 1921 in Macon, Georgia, USA by forty local businesswomen as an international service organization. The name “Pilot” was inspired by the riverboat pilots of the early 1900's. These pilots had the ability to steer a "true course" through challenging conditions and obstacles. They were leaders and today so are the Pilots of Pilot International. Pilot International has approximately 500 clubs in 20 districts in seven countries with more than 25,000 adult and youth members. Friendship and Service are the principles of Pilot with “True Course Ever” as our motto. Pilot colors are Green (life and vigor) and Gold (sincerity of purpose) and our Emblem is a riverboat pilot’s wheel with eight spokes.
Governor Bonnie's November Message
Nobody has ever measured how much a heart can hold. – Zelda Fitzgerald A man is not where he lives but where he loves. – Unknown
February brings to mind red hearts, sweetheart pink carnations, and the best-tasting chocolate you ever had. But Valentine’s Day and February are much more than flowers and candy. In February, we officially celebrate LOVE – the “stuff of life” that makes up who we really are. Behind all of our roles and personalities, each of us is a living, loving being. So this February, let’s put the cupids and carnations and conversation hearts aside. Now more than ever volunteerism is needed! Isn’t that what we as Pilots do best? Give of yourself, your time, your heart – to people you know and people you don’t. Share your love in small ways and big. Best of all, be generous.
On February 5, the second District Convention planning meeting will be held at the Renaissance in Montgomery to finalize convention plans. Also, on Saturday, February 6 at 10 a.m. Governor-Elect Sherre will preside at her 2010-2011 Appointees Meeting at the Guesthouse Inn in Clanton.
Clubs should have elected their nominating committees and should be working on selecting a new slate of club officers for the 2010-2011 year. Please let me know who your club president will be so that I can list them in our District Convention program.
Nominating Committee Chair Cookie Adair will appreciate your nominations for District Office. The deadline for nominations is February 20. Forms were sent out in the last issue of the Governor’s Bulletin and are also available on the Alabama District website: www.alabamapilot.com
I hope each club will enter the competition for Brain-Related Award and Community Service Award. Each award gives your club an opportunity to showcase what you do in your local community. Deadline for entries is March 15. Please send entries to Awards Jury Chair Louise King. Her contact information is listed in the appointee contact section of this Governor’s Bulletin.
Anchor Convention is March 6-7 at the Renaissance in Montgomery. What an exciting convention is planned. The Anchors are excited about their district project this year. They will be providing Wii equipment to the newly renovated activities room at Camp ASCCA. If you sponsor an Anchor Club, please check with them about any needs they may have and please encourage them to attend convention.
District Convention is April 23-25. We will have a great time of fun, fellowship, and learning. Registration forms have already been sent. They are also available on the district website. Each club is allowed three delegates. Your delegates are your voice.
Membership Incentives: Pilots who enroll five new or reinstated members between August 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010 will have their name entered for a grand prize drawing at the 2010 Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. The prize is a weekend for two at the Sea Breeze Resort in Nassau. Airfare is included. Total value cannot to exceed $2,000.00.
The Alabama District will be awarding a $100.00 bill at District Convention to the Alabama Pilot that brings in the most new members. Competition dates are from July 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010.
The clubs of the Northern Area of the Alabama District have challenged all other areas of the Alabama District. They have promised to do a hula skirt dance and shake their coconuts at District Convention if any other area recruits more members than they do. They seem pretty sure of themselves!
